SUMMER/FALL 2009 ACTIVITIES
Water Mill Beaches:
Water Mill has three beaches: Flying Point Road, W. Scott Cameron & Mecox Beach and the Dead End Beach at the end of Flying Point Road. Parking permits are available at the first two beaches from Memorial Day. Proof of residency required for local rate.

Tennis Courts:
A number of private clubs provide tennis courts but the best value by far is the Water Mill Community Club on Nowedonah Avenue (off Montauk Highway). Three hard courts are available to members. No lessons permitted, other rules are clearly posted. For further information go to: www.watermillcommunityclub.org
Best Hiking Trails:
Four trails in the beautiful 148-acre Laurel Valley County Park. Main entrance East side of Deerfield Road opposite Deerwood Path. Moderately hilly with wooded knolls and thousands of laurel shrubs. Trail map displayed on kiosk at trailhead. For more hiking info go to www.hikeli.org
Best Fishing Spot:
Looking out across Mecox Bay you will occasionally see a crane digging a channel to the ocean. Nutrient-rich bay water attracts striped bass. Be ready to head for very end of Flying Point Road with your surfcasting stuff. Fishing licenses and resident permits for crabbing and clamming available at Southampton Town Clerk’s office, (631) 287-5740.
Boat Launch Sites:
On Mecox Bay and Water Mill’s many ponds. For information and locations, call Southampton Town Trustees (631) 287-5717.
Working Out:
The Southampton Town Recreation Center is a 55,000 sq. ft. facility on Major’s Path. It offers everything from basketball to a 1/7-mile running track to a 3,500 sq. ft. fully equipped gym. Membership fees range from $35 to $800, depending on the package.

Core Dynamics Health and Fitness club, located on Deerfield Road in a 6,500 renovated barn, has state of the art cardio and strength training equipment, offers small group fitness classes, personal training and massage therapy. For membership fees and further information, call (631) 726-6409.
Kids Playgrounds:
The Water Mill Community Club on Nowedonah Avenue off the Montauk Highway offers 6 ½ acres of playing fields for soccer and baseball plus swings, slides and other play equipment for small fry. Empty Bowls Benefit for Water Mill Museum sponsored by Clay Art Guild of the Hamptons. 11 to 3 at the museum gallery. Admission of $20 covers homemade soup, dessert and handmade bowl.
